Youtube Debut!
Insta*gram is dead to me.
Howdy!
It’s been a minute, I know, sorry about that! A lot has changed for me and the business in the past month or so but I feel finally an achievable flow has been created for us.
I’m giving up on Instagram…
Truly, I’m afraid it hasn’t done much for me in the (almost) 3 years since I moved across the country. It’s almost impossible to acquire consistent growth through the platform at this point, not that it’s ever been easy. In the last few years I have really struggled to reach people in my new city even through location tagging and hashtags which were pretty essential to my growth from the beginning of my apprenticeship. Most of my followers are still my beloved Phoenicians but alas, that is not helping me get booked here in Seattle.
I guess the statement above isn’t entirely true. Posts will continue to be made to my instagram with no set schedule or strategy, I will remain using the platform as purely an easily accessible portfolio so that as people do look me up I’m able to be found.
With the fall of TikTok, which apparently is on the chopping block once again, I abandoned the platform and see no use in rejoining as who knows when and why and how the app will continue to or cease to exist at any point in time.
I’m done relying on social media!
Some efforts I have been making regularly of course are to flyer my city, hand out stickers, etc. with the hopes of organically reaching people. I truly am of the belief now that short form content is not made to last. The stress of creation for the sake of self promotion is old news for me.
That being said…
Hay and I are starting a new adventure together by creating a YouTube channel! As much as this will of course help me to gain exposure to a wider array of audience (I believe) it is mostly a way for us to try new things and experiences, capture our day to day lives as business owners and creatives! One of my lifelong goals is to get up from the tv and go experience life and I think the process of capturing it all will help me, especially, in doing so! We’re thinking of it as a kind of digital scrapbook.
Substack isn’t going anywhere for us either. Subscribers will have early access to new YouTube content, of course, including our very first video! Provided below is a special link allowing you access to view before the video is posted tonight.
I’m really excited about the expansion into YouTube. I truly believe long form media is the most consistent and reliable way to keep up to date with your favorite creatives. Also, as artists we are taught to experience the process and journey that comes along with whatever we are creating. Sometimes that even ends up being more important or educational that the outcome or final product itself. Long form video definitely takes more time and work than 30 second tiktoks but I feel a lot more inspired to share who I am and what I’m working on in this way.
Thanks for reading :-)
